netBI has developed an Emissions Reporting Tool, which can automatically produce reports across hundreds of different metrics, determining the highest polluting vehicles and routes in a transport network. As a result, this technology is being used by clients to identify and drive sustainability investment decisions with the aim of meeting emissions targets.
The company worked with Greater Wellington Regional Council after the New Zealand Government legislated Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. As busses contribute to 30 per cent of the country’s corporate carbon footprint*, it was important for the council to understand how to reduce emissions in an impactful and sustainable way.
John Langford-Ely, CEO, netBI said, “It’s important for public transport providers to realise that manual processes are no longer going to work when it comes to managing sustainability data and decisions. The process of manually analysing data takes weeks to complete and in the end, the results are incomplete and thus unreliable for lasting and impactful decision making. netBI’s Emissions Reporting Tool can now analyse any pollutant data to clearly identify which vehicles and routes perform the best from a sustainability perspective.”
Andrew Myers, Manager Customer Insights and Assets for Metlink, Greater Wellington Council said, “We can now more accurately meet Government Emissions reporting obligations and use the same data to deliver insights to other stakeholders.”
Metlink passengers also have the power to make emissions-conscious travel choices using data from the Emissions Reporting Tool. The Metlink Passenger App uses emissions data to compare petrol, diesel, and electric vehicle journeys with the public transport option for the journey – calculating the carbon footprint for each journey option. Passengers can confidently evaluate all travel options and decide if they wish to travel via the lowest emitting route.
The Emissions Reporting Tool took less than a year to develop and release; a testament to the collaboration between Metlink and netBI, who have together enhanced organisational value and local mobility outcomes by better leveraging available data.
As Australia also prepares for a Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050, organisations in the transport industry are being urged to harness technology to support better sustainability programs. The Emissions Reporting Tool is available to all customers of netBI.
netBI is also excited to announce they are a finalist in the QLD Export Awards’ Sustainability and Green Economy category for their Emissions Reporting Tool. The event will take place on 4 September in Brisbane. Connect with us on LinkedIn for our latest news.
